Computer Science

At The Royal School Wolverhampton, the Computer Science and IT department delivers a forward-thinking curriculum that equips students with the digital skills and knowledge required for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.

What is Computer Science?

Computer Science focuses on how computers work and how they can be programmed. It develops logical thinking, problem-solving, and computational skills through areas such as algorithms, programming, data representation, and the principles of hardware and software.

What is IT?

Information Technology (IT) is about how digital tools and systems are used in real-world contexts. It emphasises practical skills such as using software to analyse data, manage information, and communicate effectively, preparing students for careers and further study in a wide range of industries.

Key Stage 5 (KS5)

We offer two advanced routes:

  • OCR A Level Computer Science, which develops advanced problemsolving, programming, and theoretical knowledge to prepare students for higher education or careers in computing.
  • Cambridge Advanced National in IT: Data Analytics, which builds professional IT skills in managing and interpreting data, preparing students for the modern digital workplace.

Our Vision

Across all key stages, our emphasis is not only on technical knowledge but also on creativity, resilience, and the ethical use of technology. Whether through Computer Science or IT, our mission is to inspire students to innovate, think critically, and become the next generation of digital leaders.
