History
At The Royal School, we teach pupils that, “History is the study of people, places and events of the past”.
We believe that History helps children develop a sense of identity and an understanding of the wider world. Through historical enquiry, pupils explore key events, significant figures, and the causes and consequences of change over time.
Our curriculum enables children to develop as historians by questioning evidence, making connections, and building chronological understanding. Through our 'Golden Threads,' which run throughout the school, pupils develop key historical concepts, deepening their knowledge and understanding as they progress.
We aim to develop pupils’ historical knowledge and skills through our ‘Golden Threads’:

History is taught as a discrete subject providing greater richness, historical understanding and context. Pupils engage in immersive learning experiences, including handling artefacts, exploring narratives, and role-playing, to develop historical curiosity and empathy.
We aim to inspire a lifelong interest in History, equipping pupils with the skills to analyse evidence, interpret the past, and understand how history shapes the present and future.
