Coaching Team
RSW Swimming is led by Shaun Wilidng and Elliott Day. Working alongside our coaching team is our performance consultant Nick Sellwood.
Shaun Wilding
Elite & Performance
Shaun leads the Elite and Performance programme at RSW. His coaching record includes regional championship titles, national qualifiers and medallists, and coaching athletes competing at international and Commonwealth Games level.
Alongside his role at RSW, Shaun is a West Midlands Regional Development Coach, contributing to the development of swimmers within the regional performance pathway.
His coaching has also supported swimmers progressing into leading university performance programmes in the UK and NCAA programmes in the United States, including Division I environments.
Elliott Day
Development & Academy
Elliott brings the perspective of a high-level competitive swimmer to his coaching — having competed in British finals and achieved medals at English and Irish championship level.
Elliott trained under coaches Nathan Hilton — now a senior figure within Aquatics GB — and Dave Champion at Ipswich Swimming Club, giving him exposure to some of the most respected coaching environments in British swimming. As a swimmer he was selected for the prestigious DiSE programme.
Elliott has played a key role in developing swimmers through the performance pathway, coaching athletes to regional championship titles, international representation and helping swimmers to become some of the leading performers nationally within their age groups.
Alongside his role at RSW, Elliott is a National Development Coach and is continuing to build his coaching experience through Swim England’s Coach Mentor Programme, working alongside an experienced international and Olympic-level coach.
His work focuses on athlete development, technical progression and creating a clear pathway for swimmers to progress from development-level swimming towards regional and national performance.
Nick Sellwood Performance Consultant
Nick brings more than three decades of elite coaching, athlete development and sports leadership experience to RSW. A former Great Britain swimming coach, he is recognised within the British Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Fame as an Olympic Coach.
During his coaching career, Nick worked with athletes at the highest levels of international swimming. Among those he coached was Commonwealth champion and Olympian Adam Whitehead, whose career included Commonwealth Games gold, European Championship success, multiple British titles and a world No.1 ranking. He also coached Sydney Olympian and Commonwealth medallist Helen Smart at both club and national-team level.
Nick subsequently moved into national performance leadership, serving as Head of Talent Development for the ASA and working within British Swimming's high-performance and talent structures. His career has encompassed Olympic, World and European Championship environments and the development of athletes and coaches across the performance pathway.
His experience extends beyond swimming. As Chief Executive of the National Ice Skating Association, Nick led within an Olympic national governing body during the Sochi 2014 cycle, and he has subsequently worked across high-performance sport, organisational development and professional coaching standards.
Today, Nick is a Swim England West Midlands Coach Mentor, supporting the development of coaches across the region. At RSW, he works closely with the coaching team as a Performance Consultant, providing experienced external challenge across long-term planning, training methodology, athlete development and the continued evolution of the performance programme.
