Performance Programme

Everything we do at RSW Swimming is built around two priorities: developing the swimmer and developing the person.

Coaching Approach

We believe swimmers perform best when they feel supported, confident and invested in their own development.

Our coaches work closely with athletes to understand the individual behind the performance. We expect swimmers to understand the purpose of their training, take responsibility for their development and communicate openly with their coaches.

Training, competition planning and athlete development are therefore collaborative processes. Swimmers should know what they are working towards, why they are doing it and what progress looks like.

Training Approach

Our programme is purposeful, progressive and evidence-informed.

Training is planned around the demands of the swimmer, their events and their stage of development. We use structured periodisation, repeatable training benchmarks, technical observation and athlete feedback to assess adaptation and inform future planning.

Our approach is influenced by established swimming science and coaching practice, including the work of Jan Olbrecht, while recognising that effective coaching is ultimately about applying those principles appropriately to the individual athlete.

Technique and skills underpin everything we do. Volume and intensity are never pursued at the expense of quality. As physical demand increases, we expect swimmers to maintain the technical standards that allow performance to transfer into competition.

The objective is simple: prepare each swimmer to perform at their best when it matters.

Our Values

RESPECT
For yourself, your teammates, your coaches and the process.

COURAGE
To challenge yourself, accept feedback, make mistakes and compete with intent..

PROFESSIONALISM
To prepare properly, be accountable and maintain high standards consistently..

TRUST
In your preparation, your coaches and the people around you.

ENERGY
To contribute positively to the environment every day.

Performance Culture

RSW is a performance environment in which every swimmer contributes.

We expect athletes to train with purpose, support their teammates and take responsibility for the standards of the group. Success is not only determined by what an individual achieves, but by what they contribute to the environment around them.

Our aim is to develop swimmers who are technically strong, physically prepared, confident in their training and ready to progress through regional, national, international and university performance pathways.
