CLOSER TO THE EDGE

Armed with waterproofs, tracksuit bottoms and extra socks, Year 12 and 13 were prepared for their trip to Baggeridge Park, whatever the weather. A pleasant surprise on Friday 4th September was when everyone woke up to sunshine. However, being England, no-one expected the sunny weather to prevail for long, yet prevail it did. We couldn't have asked for better weather, though windy at times- which was admittedly scary if you were on the 40ft pole, balancing precariously on the top- the sun shone all day.

Integrating the new Years is the key to a successful Sixth Form and so a team building day was an excellent way of forging new friendships and strengthening others. The moment we arrived we were split into groups to do different activities. One of them being an adventure course which featured a zip-wire, a trapeze and a giant ladder equipped with a see-saw- easy right? It didn't sound that challenging. Except for the fact that these activities were held 40ft off the forest floor- making the whole experience decidedly more daunting. We now understand why the course was called ‘Closer To The Edge'- literally! It was certainly fitting.

The staff at Baggeridge were extremely helpful, encouraging and fearless- I might add! They encouraged everyone to have a go and I'm sure the screams from the rocking see-saw in the sky were heard for miles around!

After a morning of near death experiences we, with slightly fragile stomachs, forced down food, it did help that the café sold such tasty burger and chips!

Then after lunch the groups swapped around and activities that involved team work, like orienteering began in the afternoon. At half past three, a full six hours of activity later, the students of the two years left on coaches together.

It was the end of a tiring and yet exhilarating day in which fears were conquered, friendships were made and a brilliant time was had by all involved.
